Temporary Permits
Temporary non-resident commercial vehicle permits are available in place of IRP registration. Permits are valid for interstate or intrastate operation.
4 Day Non-Resident Temporary Permits
Permits cost $45 and are valid for four consecutive days (three executive days following first use). Additional permits are needed operations for longer than four days.
To purchase the permits in bulk, send a written request and a check or money order for the total amount due for the number of permits desired to:

90-Day Non-Resident Temporary Permits
You can receive a 90-day Non-Resident Commercial Permit if your commercial vehicle is currently registered in an IRP judication or registered IRP in a foreign IRP jurisdiction
These 90-day permits may only be obtained at the California Department of Motor Vehicles. Before entering the state, you must receive a four-day trip permit and then be registered under the 90-day permit. A copy of the current valid nonresident registration certificate must be presented with the permit application.
If the vehicle is powered by a fuel other than gasoline, a use fuel tax permit number must be reported if one has been issued. Fees for the 90-day permit are assessed at the rate of one-quarter of the full twelve months California fees.
Use Fuel/Use Tax Trip Permit
Fuel/Use Tax Trip Permits may be used in place of an International Fuel Tax Account (IFTA) and is valid for four days (three executive days following first use). Permits are sold blank and can be purchased in bulk.
